Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Mining, Industrial Metals & Mining and Fixed Line Telecommunications sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.40%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which rose 4.55% or 48.50 points to trade at 1114.00 at the close. Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) added 4.50% or 120.500 points to end at 2796.000 and Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) was up 3.60% or 8.55 points to 246.15 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB), which lost 3.75% or 144.00 points to trade at 3699.00 in late trade. Travis Perkins PLC (LON:TPK) declined 3.31% or 46.00 points to end at 1346.00 and GKN PLC (LON:GKN) shed 2.88% or 9.30 points to 313.90.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1237 to 1069 and 421 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.76% or 9.55 to $1273.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 1.31% or 0.66 to hit $49.86 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 1.36% or 0.70 to trade at $50.76 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.69% to 1.2155, while EUR/GBP rose 0.73% to 0.8957.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.11% at 98.75.
