Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Electrical/Machinery, Glass and Transportation Equipment sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 2.15% to hit a new 6-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were The Shizuoka Bank, Ltd. (TOKYO:8355), which rose 3.22% or 39.0 points to trade at 1251.0 at the close. Obayashi Corp. (TOKYO:1802) added 1.75% or 18.0 points to end at 1046.0 and Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (TOKYO:9107) was up 1.15% or 3.0 points to 264.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Minebea Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:6479), which lost 5.82% or 88.0 points to trade at 1425.0 in late trade. Shiseido Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:4911) declined 5.73% or 144.5 points to end at 2377.0 and Pioneer Corp. (TOKYO:6773) shed 5.65% or 13.0 points to 217.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1704 to 172 on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 9.93% to 39.19.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for October delivery was down 1.43% or 0.67 to $46.08 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in October fell 1.48% or 0.75 to hit $49.93 a barrel, while the December Gold contract unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to trade at $1124.50 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.45% to 119.54, while EUR/JPY fell 0.40% to 133.03.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.02% at 96.33.
