Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Electronic & Electrical Equipment, Tobacco and Oil & Gas Producers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.77%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Merlin Entertainments PLC (L:MERL), which rose 3.29% or 13.20 points to trade at 415.00 at the close. Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (L:RR) added 2.68% or 16.50 points to end at 631.50 and International Consolidated Airlines Group SA (L:ICAG) was up 2.68% or 13.50 points to 518.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Standard Chartered PLC (L:STAN), which lost 5.34% or 24.200 points to trade at 428.850 in late trade. G4S PLC (L:GFS) declined 1.59% or 3.20 points to end at 197.80 and Shire PLC (L:SHP) shed 1.50% or 57.00 points to 3740.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1091 to 1022 and 431 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was down 2.29% or 28.40 to $1211.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.22% or 0.36 to hit $29.08 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 2.76% or 0.92 to trade at $32.47 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.95% to 1.4300, while EUR/GBP rose 0.82% to 0.7792.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.12% at 96.86.
