Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Aerospace & Defense, Mobile Telecommunications and Household Goods & Home Construction sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 lost 0.29%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Admiral Group PLC (LONDON:ADML), which rose 4.47% or 65.00 points to trade at 1518.00 at the close. Fresnillo PLC (LONDON:FRES) added 3.66% or 23.00 points to end at 652.00 and RSA Insurance Group PLC (LONDON:RSA) was up 2.16% or 9.300 points to 440.200 in late trade.
Biggest losers included EasyJet PLC (LONDON:EZJ), which lost 3.20% or 55.00 points to trade at 1666.00 in late trade. Barratt Developments PLC (LONDON:BDEV) declined 2.49% or 16.00 points to end at 625.50 and Ashtead Group PLC (LONDON:AHT) shed 2.34% or 25.00 points to 1043.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1577 to 1027 and 440 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was down 0.18% or 2.00 to $1104.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.61% or 0.31 to hit $50.75 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.26% or 0.14 to trade at $56.80 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.05% to 1.5556, while EUR/GBP rose 1.12% to 0.7034.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.79% at 97.41.
