Investing.com – Taiwan equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the , Optoelectronic and Information Services sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Taiwan, the Taiwan Weighted declined 2.41% to hit a new 6-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Taiwan Weighted were Everfocus Elec (TW:5484), which rose 8.09% or 0.41 points to trade at 5.48 at the close. Lan Fa Textile (TW:1459) added 5.37% or 0.65 points to end at 12.75 and Pou Chen (TW:9904) was up 4.18% or 1.75 points to 43.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Qisda (TW:2352), which lost 10.00% or 1.00 points to trade at 9.00 in late trade. Via Tech (TW:2388) declined 10.00% or 0.51 points to end at 4.59 and Gigastorage (TW:2406) shed 10.00% or 2.10 points to 18.90.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 796 to 49 on the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was down 0.18% or 0.09 to $48.05 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in September rose 0.11% or 0.06 to hit $54.68 a barrel, while the December Gold contract rose 1.52% or 16.50 to trade at $1102.50 a troy ounce.
USD/TWD was down 0.07% to 31.498, while TWD/CNY rose 0.40% to 0.1984.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.31% at 97.04.
