Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Mining, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 gained 0.36%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Tullow Oil Plc (LONDON:TLW), which rose 4.90% or 19.50 points to trade at 417.80 at the close. Anglo American (LONDON:AAL) added 4.73% or 48.00 points to end at 1062.00 and Antofagasta (LONDON:ANTO) was up 4.67% or 35.00 points to 784.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Legal & General Group (LONDON:LGEN), which lost 4.37% or 12.10 points to trade at 265.10 in late trade. Old Mutual Plc (LONDON:OML) declined 2.69% or 6.40 points to end at 231.10 and Sports Direct Intl Plc (LONDON:SPD) shed 2.30% or 14.50 points to 616.50.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1302 to 1228 and 522 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 0.35% or 4.20 to $1191.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 3.26% or 1.83 to hit $57.99 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 3.45% or 2.17 to trade at $64.89 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.11% to 1.5053, while EUR/GBP rose 0.69% to 0.7183.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.71% at 97.55.
