Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Automobiles & Parts and Forestry & Paper sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 1.69%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were International Consolidated Airlines Group SA (LONDON:ICAG), which rose 4.76% or 27.00 points to trade at 594.00 at the close. Carnival PLC (LONDON:CCL) added 4.02% or 134.00 points to end at 3467.00 and EasyJet PLC (LONDON:EZJ) was up 3.47% or 59.000 points to 1759.000 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LONDON:RR), which lost 0.88% or 6.00 points to trade at 679.50 in late trade. Standard Chartered PLC (LONDON:STAN) declined 0.77% or 5.200 points to end at 667.800 and RSA Insurance Group PLC (LONDON:RSA) shed 0.61% or 2.500 points to 403.700.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1356 to 799 and 433 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.52% or 5.80 to $1130.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 2.46% or 1.14 to hit $45.22 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 1.25% or 0.61 to trade at $48.47 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.69% to 1.5256, while EUR/GBP rose 1.08% to 0.7318.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.05% at 96.45.
