Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Forestry & Paper, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 gained 0.23%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Mondi Plc (LONDON:MNDI), which rose 8.94% or 116.00 points to trade at 1414.00 at the close. Fresnillo Plc (LONDON:FRES) added 5.05% or 36.00 points to end at 749.50 and Persimmon (LONDON:PSN) was up 4.12% or 72.00 points to 1820.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Compass Group (LONDON:CPG), which lost 3.78% or 44.00 points to trade at 1119.00 in late trade. TUI AG (LONDON:TUIT) declined 3.67% or 46.00 points to end at 1207.00 and WM Morrison Supermarkets PLC (LONDON:MRW) shed 2.37% or 4.30 points to 176.90.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1739 to 891 and 445 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 1.85% or 22.10 to $1214.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.81% or 0.49 to hit $61.24 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 1.44% or 0.97 to trade at $68.35 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.45% to 1.5740, while EUR/GBP rose 0.92% to 0.7222.
The US Dollar Index was down 1.15% at 93.61.
