Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Construction & Materials, Food & Drug Retailers and Household Goods & Home Construction sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 1.22%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LON:RBS), which rose 2.28% or 4.600 points to trade at 206.700 at the close. Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM) added 1.55% or 15.00 points to end at 979.50 and Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) was up 0.90% or 1.55 points to 174.75 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT), which lost 4.42% or 57.00 points to trade at 1233.00 in late trade. Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB) declined 3.92% or 164.00 points to end at 4020.00 and WM Morrison Supermarkets PLC (LON:MRW) shed 3.70% or 7.40 points to 192.50.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1610 to 534 and 450 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.38% or 5.15 to $1336.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 2.69% or 1.28 to hit $46.34 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 3.00% or 1.50 to trade at $48.49 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.27% to 1.3260, while EUR/GBP fell 0.18% to 0.8453.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.46% at 95.48.
