Investment Strategy

The objective of the Sub-Fund is to achieve long-term capital growth. The Sub-Fund invests primarily (meaning at least three-quarters of the Sub-Fund’s Net Asset Value), in equity and equity-related securities of companies listed, traded, located in or deriving the majority of their revenue or income from emerging market countries (including, but not limited to, Brazil, Chile, China, India, Indonesia, Korea, Mexico, Philippines, Taiwan and South Africa). The Sub-Fund’s holdings will be listed or traded on Eligible Markets.

Biography Liliana is head of emerging market and Asia equities. She is a highly experienced portfolio manager and accomplished team leader, having managed equity strategies for more than 20 years. Liliana joined Newton from Wellington Management, where she led the development and management of various emerging-market strategies, including the Emerging Market Small Cap Discovery and Emerging Market Impact strategies, initially from Singapore and latterly from London. Liliana began her career as an emerging markets analyst at HSBC in New York, before spending 18 years at AllianceBernstein, where she was lead portfolio manager of the AB International Discovery Fund and the thematic AB Emerging Consumer Fund. Biography Paul Birchenough is a portfolio manager for William Blair’s Emerging Markets Leaders strategy. Before joining the firm in 2024, he was a global emerging markets portfolio manager at Newton from 2020 to 2023. Previously, Paul was a global emerging markets equity portfolio manager at AXA Investment Managers, where he worked since 2011. Before joining AXA, Paul was a research analyst at Nevsky Capital. Before that, he held various roles at KPMG, including positions in corporate finance, transaction services, and audit. Paul is an Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA). Biography Sophia Whitbread is an investment manager on the emerging markets equities team at Newton, where she was employed from 2005 to 2010 and rejoined in January 2011. She joined Newton in 2005 as a financials analyst, specialising in the banking sector. She held additional, and specific, responsibilities for the asset management and the life insurance sectors, with coverage of all sectors on a global basis. She moved to Edinburgh briefly in 2010, working for Baillie Gifford, before returning to Newton in January 2011 to assume her current role. She is lead manager of the Emerging Income Fund; alternate manager of the Global Emerging Markets Fund; and a member of the team managing the Asian Income strategy. Sophia holds both MA (Hons) and MPhil degrees in Classics from the University of Cambridge. Sophia is a CFA charterholder.

Jason Pidcock Manager 2012 2015
Biography Jason joined Jupiter in 2015 and is currently Head of Strategy, Asian Income as well as the manager. Before joining Jupiter, Jason is a portfolio manager with BNY Mellon (formerly Newton Asset Management), his employer since 2004. Previously he worked at BP, where he was responsible for stock selection and asset allocation in the Asia Pacific ex-Japan region for the BP pension fund. Prior to this, Jason started his career with Henderson Global Investors, where he was assistant fund manager between 1993 and 1996. He was one of a team of six covering 11 stock markets in the Pacific ex-Japan region.
