Investment Strategy

The Fund has two aims: To provide a higher total return (capital growth plus income), net of the Ongoing Charge Figure, than the FTSE All-Share Index over any five year period; and to invest in companies that contribute towards the Paris Agreement climate change goal. At least 80% of the Fund is invested directly in equities and equity related securities of companies, across any sector and of any size, that are incorporated, domiciled or do most of their business, in the UK. The fund is concentrated and usually holds shares in fewer than 50 companies. The Fund invests in securities that meet the ESG Criteria and Sustainability Criteria.

Biography Garfield Kiff started managing the M&G Smaller Companies strategy in June 2015. Garfield joined M&G in 2000 from PricewaterhouseCoopers as a smaller companies analyst. He was deputy manager of the M&G Recovery strategy from 2002 until 2008, and managed the Prudential Pooled Pensions Smaller Companies strategy between 2003 and 2008. Over time, he added support services, media and consumer staples to his sector responsibilities, until June 2015 when he became an embedded research analyst with the UK Equities team. Since 2019, he has been managing M&G’s UK Select strategy and has been the deputy manager of the Smaller Companies strategy. Prior to joining M&G, Rory worked for St James's Place Partnership. He graduated from Bath University in 2008 with a BSc (Hons) in economics.

Biography Mike Felton joined M&G in 2005 as Head of UK Retail Equities and manager of the M&G UK Select Fund. He began his investment career at SunAlliance Investment Management (RSAI) in 1989, having graduated that year in economics at De Montford University. In 2001, he was appointed manager of the newly created Royal & Sun Alliance Prime Fund, an early example of a new breed of ‘focus’ funds. Upon the acquisition of RSAI by Friends Ivory & Sime in 2002, Mike was appointed Head of Retail Equities for the combined group renamed ISIS Asset Management.

Biography Prior to Tyndall, Simon spent 10 years at Merian/Old Mutual where he was manager of the Merian UK Equity Fund and Head of UK Large Cap Equities. Simon also spent 10 years at M&G, the latter 4 of which as manager of the M&G UK Growth fund. Simon Murphy worked with Price Waterhouse Coopers from 1994 to 1998, where he qualified as a chartered accountant. Murphy graduated from Warwick University with a BSc Honours degree in Economics and a Masters degree in Economics and Finance.

Biography Peter joined M&G in October 2001 as Director of Equities. He is responsible for the Prudential UK Equity pension fund, that builds on analyst recommendations, and also for applying this approach to a number of retail funds. Prior to joining M&G, Peter was Managing Director of Active Funds at Legal & General. He has gained his investment experience over more thant 30 years and a BA in Mathematics from Exeter University.
Sam Morse Portfolio Manager 2001 2003
Biography Sam Morse assumed responsibility for Fidelity European Fund on 1 January 2010 and the portfolio of Fidelity European Values on 1 January 2011. Prior to becoming a portfolio manager, Sam spent two years as a research analyst with Fidelity, covering a range of sectors, then six years as an equity income fund manager at Fidelity. He also worked as Head of Equities and Head of UK Equities at M&G from 1997 to 2003.
