Investment Strategy

The Sub-fund aims to produce a combination of income and capital growth. The Sub-fund will invest at least 80% in sub-investment grade bonds and will be actively managed. To the extent that the Sub-fund is not fully invested in subinvestment grade bonds, the Sub-fund may also invest in other bonds, shares, other transferable securities, money market instruments, deposits and cash.

Before joining Baillie Gifford in 2022, Arthur worked for abrdn/Standard Life Investments for 16 years, where he was responsible for managing a number of high yield funds. Arthur graduated BSc Biological Sciences from The University of Edinburgh in 1992, has a postgraduate diploma in Commerce from The University of Wollongong and is a Chartered Accountant.

Biography Robert graduated with MMath from Durham University in 2001. He joined Baillie Gifford in the same year and is an Investment Manager in the Credit Team. Robert is a CFA Charterholder and is the chair of the trustees of our own Pension Fund.

Biography Lucy Isles - graduated MA (Hons) in International Relations and Modern History from the University of St Andrews in 2011. Lucy joined Baillie Gifford in 2012 and is an Investment Manager in the High Yield Team.

Biography Donald Phillips joined Liontrust in February 2018 from Baillie Gifford to create the Liontrust Global Fixed Income team with David Roberts and Phil Milburn. Donald is co-manager of Liontrust’s High Yield Bond and Absolute Return Bond strategies. Donald had been co-managing the European high-yield strategy at Baillie Gifford since 2010. More recently, he had been involved in the portfolio construction of a US high-yield fund. Previously, Donald worked at Kames Capital with David and Phil from 2005 to 2008. He graduated from the University of Strathclyde in 2004 with a BA in Economics.

Biography Graduated MA (Hons) in Politics and Economics from University of Glasgow in 1985. Began his investment career at JP Morgan where, after completing their Financial Markets Training Program, he spent 7 years in various research and trading roles in fixed income. Subsequently, he was Head of Bond Options at Banque Paribas. Prior to joining Baillie Gifford in 2001, he was a High Yield Portfolio Manager at Gulf International Bank.
