France shares lower at close of trade; CAC 40 down 1.85%

Investing.com – France equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Financials, Industrials and Utilities sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 declined 1.85% to hit a new 3-month low, while the SBF 120 index declined 1.83%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the CAC 40 were Nokia Oyj (PA:NOKIA), which rose 1.59% or 0.079 points to trade at 5.055 at the close. Sodexo (PA:EXHO) fell 0.63% or 0.58 points to end at 91.78 and Unibail Rodamco SE (AS:UNBP) was down 0.89% or 2.10 points to 234.40 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Technip (PA:TECF), which lost 4.22% or 2.09 points to trade at 47.37 in late trade. Lafargeholcim Ltd (PA:LHN) declined 4.14% or 1.59 points to end at 36.89 and ArcelorMittal SA (AS:ISPA) shed 3.70% or 0.175 points to 4.555.

The top performers on the SBF 120 were Nokia Oyj (PA:NOKIA) which rose 1.59% to 5.055, Eutelsat Communications (PA:ETL) which was up 0.92% to settle at 15.91 and Hermes International SCA (PA:HRMS) which gained 0.14% to close at 327.00.

The worst performers were CGG (PA:GEPH) which was down 8.33% to 0.6600 in late trade, Genfit (PA:GNFT) which lost 6.00% to settle at 25.070 and Vallourec (PA:VLLP) which was down 5.38% to 3.359 at the close.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 604 to 99 and 72 ended unchanged on the Paris Stock Exchange.

The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was up 11.94% to 32.02 a new 3-month high.

In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was up 0.90% or 11.50 to $1287.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.61% or 0.30 to hit $48.77 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.59% or 0.30 to trade at $50.24 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.24% to 1.1279, while EUR/GBP rose 0.46% to 0.7929.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.19% at 94.45.
