Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the General Retailers, Mining and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.40% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were JD Sports Fashion PLC (LON:JD), which rose 15.65% or 18.20 points to trade at 134.50 at the close. International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) added 3.06% or 5.25 points to end at 176.75 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) was up 2.82% or 12.90 points to 469.90 in late trade.
Biggest losers included M&G Plc (LON:MNG), which lost 6.09% or 14.30 points to trade at 220.50 in late trade. Smith & Nephew PLC (LON:SN) declined 4.97% or 51.90 points to end at 991.60 and Severn Trent PLC (LON:SVT) shed 2.76% or 70.00 points to 2,470.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 944 to 745 and 739 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 1.32% or 29.15 to $2,241.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 1.79% or 1.46 to hit $82.81 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 1.46% or 1.25 to trade at $86.66 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.05% to 1.26, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.22% to 0.85.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.12% at 104.19.
