Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Tobacco, Healthcare Equipment & Services and Oil & Gas Producers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 2.17%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which rose 5.15% or 107.00 points to trade at 2185.00 at the close. Imperial Brands PLC (LON:IMB) added 4.23% or 167.50 points to end at 4130.00 and Old Mutual PLC (LON:OML) was up 4.06% or 7.80 points to 200.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which lost 4.12% or 151.00 points to trade at 3515.00 in late trade. Land Securities Group PLC (LON:LAND) declined 0.90% or 10.00 points to end at 1098.00 and British Land Company PLC (LON:BLND) shed 0.89% or 6.00 points to 667.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1459 to 678 and 436 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.45% or 5.95 to $1323.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 3.04% or 1.31 to hit $44.47 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 3.04% or 1.38 to trade at $46.83 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.20% to 1.3296, while EUR/GBP fell 0.49% to 0.8389.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.27% at 95.92.
