Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Life Insurance/Assurance and Food & Drug Retailers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.04% to hit a new 6-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were International Consolidated Airlines Group SA (LON:ICAG), which rose 5.05% or 19.70 points to trade at 409.90 at the close. Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) added 4.61% or 8.2000 points to end at 186.0000 and St. James’s Place PLC (LON:SJP) was up 4.56% or 36.00 points to 825.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS), which lost 4.30% or 410.00 points to trade at 9115.00 in late trade. Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) declined 3.65% or 95.00 points to end at 2505.00 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) shed 2.77% or 55.00 points to 1929.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1412 to 753 and 425 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was down 1.49% or 20.15 to $1336.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 4.00% or 1.79 to hit $46.55 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 4.22% or 1.95 to trade at $48.20 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 1.92% to 1.3240, while EUR/GBP fell 1.75% to 0.8365.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.14% at 96.44.
