Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Mining, Materials and Industrials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.40%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Intertape Polymer Group Inc . (TO:ITP), which rose 7.49% or 1.03 points to trade at 14.79 at the close. Trilogy Energy Corp (TO:TET) added 4.91% or 0.19 points to end at 4.06 and Secure Energy Services Inc . (TO:SES) was up 4.57% or 0.45 points to 10.29 in late trade.
Biggest losers included First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TO:FM), which lost 9.68% or 0.82 points to trade at 7.65 in late trade. Teck Resources Ltd (TO:TCKb) declined 8.00% or 0.73 points to end at 8.39 and Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb) shed 7.63% or 0.10 points to 1.21.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 805 to 491 and 213 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.29% to 17.24.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.13% or 1.50 to $1116.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.05% or 0.45 to hit $42.85 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.41% or 0.20 to trade at $48.54 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.25% to 0.7661, while CAD/EUR rose 0.65% to 0.6944.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.15% at 96.98.
