Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Mining, Energy and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.14%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Enerplus Corporation (TO:ERF), which rose 7.05% or 0.53 points to trade at 8.05 at the close. Baytex Energy Corp (TO:BTE) added 4.98% or 0.34 points to end at 7.17 and Extendicare Inc (TO:EXE) was up 4.95% or 0.38 points to 8.05 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Nevsun Resources Ltd . (TO:NSU), which lost 9.65% or 0.410 points to trade at 3.840 in late trade. West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd . (TO:WFT) declined 4.30% or 1.70 points to end at 37.88 and Innergex Renewable Energy Inc . (TO:INE) shed 4.26% or 0.62 points to 13.92.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 580 to 547 and 141 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 3.71% to 17.11.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was up 0.23% or 2.95 to $1301.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 4.11% or 1.90 to hit $48.11 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 4.41% or 2.08 to trade at $49.27 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.61% to 0.7757, while CAD/EUR rose 0.13% to 0.6878.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.51% at 94.29.
