Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Telecoms, Healthcare and Consumer Discretionary sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.13%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Linamar Corporation (TO:LNR), which rose 4.38% or 3.00 points to trade at 71.56 at the close. Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TO:IVN) added 3.46% or 0.160 points to end at 4.790 and Tahoe Resources Inc (TO:THO) was up 3.34% or 0.23 points to 7.12 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Exchange Income Corporation (TO:EIF), which lost 8.15% or 2.690 points to trade at 30.330 in late trade. HudBay Minerals Inc. (TO:HBM) declined 4.72% or 0.41 points to end at 8.18 and Crescent Point Energy Corp . (TO:CPG) shed 4.37% or 0.43 points to 9.40.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 540 to 539 and 138 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 13.52% to 11.77.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.10% or 1.21 to $1243.21 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.80% or 0.38 to hit $46.94 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.74% or 0.37 to trade at $49.33 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.11% to 0.7942, while CAD/EUR fell 0.89% to 0.6828.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.58% at 94.09.
