Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Mining, Automobiles & Parts and Life Insurance/Assurance sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 1.68%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Persimmon PLC (L:PSN), which rose 2.27% or 46.00 points to trade at 2075.00 at the close. Randgold Resources Ltd (L:RRS) added 1.99% or 130.00 points to end at 6650.00 and Intertek Group PLC (L:ITRK) was up 1.77% or 50.00 points to 2881.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Glencore PLC (L:GLEN), which lost 10.12% or 13.1000 points to trade at 116.3500 in late trade. Anglo American PLC (L:AAL) declined 9.57% or 43.35 points to end at 409.75 and BHP Billiton PLC (L:BLT) shed 8.38% or 62.60 points to 684.30.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1522 to 559 and 408 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was up 1.68% or 20.50 to $1243.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.41% or 0.13 to hit $32.00 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 2.46% or 0.82 to trade at $34.09 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.63% to 1.3932, while EUR/GBP rose 0.62% to 0.7910.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.05% at 97.41.
