France shares higher at close of trade; CAC 40 up 0.44%

Investing.com – France equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Financials and Utilities sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 gained 0.44%, while the SBF 120 index gained 0.45%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the CAC 40 were Kering SA (PA:PRTP), which rose 6.19% or 9.90 points to trade at 169.90 at the close. Solvay SA (BR:SOLB) added 5.84% or 5.12 points to end at 92.81 and ArcelorMittal SA (AS:ISPA) was up 5.60% or 0.305 points to 5.749 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Essilor International Compagnie Generale d’Optique SA (PA:ESSI), which lost 5.49% or 6.67 points to trade at 114.93 in late trade. Safran SA (PA:SAF) declined 5.37% or 3.45 points to end at 60.80 and L’Oreal SA (PA:OREP) shed 2.69% or 4.70 points to 170.25.

The top performers on the SBF 120 were Natixis (PA:CNAT) which rose 7.59% to 3.685, Lagardere S.C.A. (PA:LAGA) which was up 7.20% to settle at 22.84 and Electricite de France SA (PA:EDF) which gained 6.41% to close at 11.71.

The worst performers were Essilor International Compagnie Generale d’Optique SA (PA:ESSI) which was down 5.49% to 114.93 in late trade, Safran SA (PA:SAF) which lost 5.37% to settle at 60.80 and Casino Guichard (PA:CASP) which was down 4.00% to 48.45 at the close.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 351 to 320 and 93 ended unchanged on the Paris Stock Exchange.

The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was down 3.58% to 18.89.

In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 1.02% or 13.65 to $1354.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.24% or 0.10 to hit $41.24 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.12% or 0.05 to trade at $43.18 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.79% to 1.1165, while EUR/GBP rose 0.15% to 0.8429.

The US Dollar Index was down 1.12% at 95.61.
