Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Monday, as gains in the Telecoms, Healthcare and Consumer Services sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Technology, Utilities and Industrials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.65% to hit a new 1-month high, while the S&P 500 index fell 1.46%, and the NASDAQ Composite index lost 3.07%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ), which rose 4.15% or 6.09 points to trade at 152.89 at the close. Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM) added 3.96% or 13.22 points to end at 347.10 and Travelers Companies (NYSE:TRV) was up 3.79% or 9.16 points to 251.01 in late trade.
Biggest losers included NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA), which lost 16.86% or 24.05 points to trade at 118.42 in late trade. Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO) declined 5.03% or 3.13 points to end at 59.08 and Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT) shed 3.10% or 12.65 points to 394.98.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were American Water Works (NYSE:AWK) which rose 6.84% to 129.95, AT&T Inc (NYSE:T) which was up 6.25% to settle at 24.14 and HCA Holdings Inc (NYSE:HCA) which gained 6.05% to close at 332.00.
The worst performers were Vistra Energy Corp (NYSE:VST) which was down 28.27% to 137.08 in late trade, Arista Networks (NYSE:ANET) which lost 22.35% to settle at 100.30 and GE Vernova LLC (NYSE:GEV) which was down 21.52% to 330.00 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Haoxi Health Technology Ltd (NASDAQ:HAO) which rose 2,336.89% to 2.51, Aurora Mobile Ltd (NASDAQ:JG) which was up 150.95% to settle at 14.53 and Akero Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:AKRO) which gained 96.77% to close at 51.71.
The worst performers were Allakos Inc (NASDAQ:ALLK) which was down 80.47% to 0.24 in late trade, NXU Inc (NASDAQ:NXU) which lost 58.60% to settle at 0.26 and Veru Inc (NASDAQ:VERU) which was down 47.51% to 0.63 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1489 to 1322 and 56 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1981 fell and 1367 advanced, while 107 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 20.54% to 17.90.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 1.22% or 34.26 to $2,772.34 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 2.09% or 1.56 to hit $73.10 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 1.90% or 1.47 to trade at $76.08 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.09% to 1.05, while USD/JPY fell 0.82% to 154.48.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.09% at 107.15.
