Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Consumer Goods and Utilities sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Technology, Healthcare and Industrials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 1.33%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.13%, and the NASDAQ Composite index fell 0.13%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE), which rose 4.13% or 2.21 points to trade at 55.76 at the close. Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) added 3.47% or 5.43 points to end at 161.90 and Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) was up 2.62% or 9.07 points to 355.06 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Unitedhealth Group (NYSE:UNH), which lost 22.38% or 130.96 points to trade at 454.08 in late trade. NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) declined 2.93% or 3.07 points to end at 101.49 and Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN) shed 1.90% or 5.36 points to 277.28.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Eli Lilly and Company (NYSE:LLY) which rose 14.29% to 839.90, Fidelity National Information Services Inc (NYSE:FIS) which was up 8.65% to settle at 74.58 and Dollar Tree Inc (NASDAQ:DLTR) which gained 8.10% to close at 79.14.
The worst performers were Unitedhealth Group (NYSE:UNH) which was down 22.38% to 454.08 in late trade, Global Payments Inc (NYSE:GPN) which lost 17.43% to settle at 69.46 and Snap-On Inc (NYSE:SNA) which was down 8.00% to 305.44 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Kazia Therapeutics Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:KZIA) which rose 366.17% to 3.30, Motorsport Gaming Us LLC (NASDAQ:MSGM) which was up 145.54% to settle at 2.75 and China SXT Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:SXTC) which gained 116.00% to close at 2.16.
The worst performers were Lixiang Education Holding Co Ltd (NASDAQ:LXEH) which was down 68.55% to 6.84 in late trade, Click Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:CLIK) which lost 48.18% to settle at 0.36 and iOThree Ltd (NASDAQ:IOTR) which was down 37.84% to 1.15 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2075 to 702 and 63 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2162 rose and 1106 declined, while 142 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 9.16% to 29.65.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.23% or 7.53 to $3,338.87 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 2.98% or 1.86 to hit $64.33 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 2.67% or 1.76 to trade at $67.61 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.26% to 1.14, while USD/JPY rose 0.34% to 142.39.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 99.15.
