Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Technology, Consumer Goods and Consumer Services sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Healthcare, Basic Materials and Oil & Gas sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.21%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.10%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 0.72%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA), which rose 4.17% or 5.42 points to trade at 135.35 at the close. Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) added 1.40% or 1.56 points to end at 112.94 and Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) was up 1.32% or 7.94 points to 611.75 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK), which lost 4.10% or 3.14 points to trade at 73.49 in late trade. Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN) declined 3.02% or 8.17 points to end at 262.28 and 3M Company (NYSE:MMM) shed 1.90% or 2.86 points to 147.88.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Super Micro Computer Inc (NASDAQ:SMCI) which rose 15.66% to 44.98, Enphase Energy Inc (NASDAQ:ENPH) which was up 5.81% to settle at 48.28 and International Paper (NYSE:IP) which gained 4.85% to close at 50.33.
The worst performers were Bio-Techne Corp (NASDAQ:TECH) which was down 7.27% to 47.86 in late trade, IQVIA Holdings Inc (NYSE:IQV) which lost 5.88% to settle at 141.82 and Revvity Inc (NYSE:RVTY) which was down 5.88% to 91.02 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Incannex Healthcare Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:IXHL) which rose 702.81% to 0.69, Klotho Neuroscience Inc (NASDAQ:KLTO) which was up 122.46% to settle at 0.29 and Primega Group Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:PGHL) which gained 95.64% to close at 0.99.
The worst performers were High Trend International Group (NASDAQ:HTCO) which was down 72.69% to 0.39 in late trade, Accelerate Diagnostics Inc (NASDAQ:AXDX) which lost 61.36% to settle at 0.03 and Basel Medical Group (NASDAQ:BMGL) which was down 57.45% to 1.90 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1861 to 915 and 76 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2138 fell and 1194 advanced, while 107 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 2.25% to 18.63.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 1.93% or 62.81 to $3,184.99 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.16% or 0.74 to hit $62.93 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 1.20% or 0.80 to trade at $65.83 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.12% to 1.12, while USD/JPY fell 0.48% to 146.78.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.09% at 100.92.
