Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Basic Materials and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 5.50% to hit a new 6-month low, while the S&P 500 index lost 5.98%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 5.82%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE), which rose 3.02% or 1.68 points to trade at 57.26 at the close. Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) fell 0.58% or 2.07 points to end at 353.84 and Sherwin-Williams Co (NYSE:SHW) was down 2.52% or 8.59 points to 332.06 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which lost 9.46% or 14.28 points to trade at 136.63 in late trade. 3M Company (NYSE:MMM) declined 9.17% or 12.81 points to end at 126.93 and Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) shed 8.22% or 12.84 points to 143.28.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Deckers Outdoor Corporation (NYSE:DECK) which rose 5.10% to 106.02, DR Horton Inc (NYSE:DHI) which was up 4.55% to settle at 127.87 and NVR Inc (NYSE:NVR) which gained 4.23% to close at 7,410.90.
The worst performers were GE HealthCare Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:GEHC) which was down 15.96% to 60.51 in late trade, APA Corporation (NASDAQ:APA) which lost 14.43% to settle at 15.18 and Baker Hughes Co (NASDAQ:BKR) which was down 13.39% to 35.39 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Sobr Safe Inc (NASDAQ:SOBR) which rose 1,320.34% to 4.93, Future Fintech Group Inc (NASDAQ:FTFT) which was up 1,047.29% to settle at 1.48 and C3is Inc (NASDAQ:CISS) which gained 568.40% to close at 3.86.
The worst performers were Neuroone Medical Technologies Corp (NASDAQ:NMTC) which was down 44.77% to 0.47 in late trade, Davis Commodities Ltd (NASDAQ:DTCK) which lost 32.93% to settle at 0.57 and Sonim Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:SONM) which was down 32.58% to 1.80 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2610 to 238 and 19 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2843 fell and 499 advanced, while 86 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 50.93% to 45.31 a new 3-year high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 2.04% or 63.69 to $3,058.01 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 6.62% or 4.43 to hit $62.52 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 5.70% or 4.00 to trade at $66.14 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.94% to 1.09, while USD/JPY rose 0.62% to 146.96.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.97% at 102.79.
