Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Telecoms, Technology and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 2.48%, while the S&P 500 index fell 2.36%, and the NASDAQ Composite index fell 2.55%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE), which rose 0.65% or 0.36 points to trade at 56.12 at the close. Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) fell 0.19% or 0.15 points to end at 77.85 and Coca-Cola Co (NYSE:KO) was down 0.32% or 0.23 points to 72.77 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Unitedhealth Group (NYSE:UNH), which lost 6.34% or 28.78 points to trade at 425.33 in late trade. NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) declined 4.51% or 4.58 points to end at 96.91 and Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM) shed 4.45% or 11.00 points to 236.26.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Discover Financial Services (NYSE:DFS) which rose 3.56% to 165.31, Dollar General Corporation (NYSE:DG) which was up 2.73% to settle at 95.61 and Fidelity National Information Services Inc (NYSE:FIS) which gained 2.44% to close at 76.40.
The worst performers were Universal Health Services Inc (NYSE:UHS) which was down 10.15% to 157.05 in late trade, Blackstone Inc (NYSE:BX) which lost 7.80% to settle at 120.22 and Vistra Energy Corp (NYSE:VST) which was down 7.71% to 106.52 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were LQR House Inc (NASDAQ:YHC) which rose 2,880.65% to 3.70, Upexi Inc (NASDAQ:UPXI) which was up 335.68% to settle at 9.89 and SHF Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:SHFS) which gained 95.79% to close at 4.19.
The worst performers were Thunder Power Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:AIEV) which was down 64.87% to 0.05 in late trade, Lixiang Education Holding Co Ltd (NASDAQ:LXEH) which lost 58.04% to settle at 2.87 and American Rebel Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:AREB) which was down 53.68% to 2.39 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2350 to 453 and 40 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2322 fell and 994 advanced, while 108 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 14.13% to 33.84.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 3.15% or 104.94 to $3,433.34 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 2.02% or 1.29 to hit $62.72 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 2.09% or 1.42 to trade at $66.54 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 1.00% to 1.15, while USD/JPY fell 0.87% to 140.94.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.96% at 98.18.
