Goldman Sachs is out with its near-term forex outlook
Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Telecoms, Consumer Goods and Healthcare sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.70%, while the S&P 500 index lost 0.84%, and the NASDAQ Composite index fell 0.91%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX), which rose 1.93% or 2.82 points to trade at 148.85 at the close. Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:V) added 0.66% or 2.36 points to end at 357.84 and International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM) was up 0.43% or 1.22 points to 283.05 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK), which lost 3.31% or 2.68 points to trade at 78.28 in late trade. Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) declined 3.07% or 1.90 points to end at 60.00 and 3M Company (NYSE:MMM) shed 2.00% or 2.90 points to 142.18.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Jabil Circuit Inc (NYSE:JBL) which rose 8.89% to 196.89, Valero Energy Corporation (NYSE:VLO) which was up 2.91% to settle at 141.77 and CrowdStrike Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:CRWD) which gained 2.64% to close at 492.03.
The worst performers were Enphase Energy Inc (NASDAQ:ENPH) which was down 23.97% to 34.92 in late trade, First Solar Inc (NASDAQ:FSLR) which lost 17.89% to settle at 143.90 and The AES Corporation (NYSE:AES) which was down 8.12% to 10.53 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Sensei Biotherapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:SNSE) which rose 1,909.20% to 6.55, CERo Therapeutics Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:CERO) which was up 191.62% to settle at 19.83 and Acurx Pharmaceuticals LLC (NASDAQ:ACXP) which gained 164.77% to close at 0.81.
The worst performers were Stardust Power Inc (NASDAQ:SDST) which was down 52.64% to 0.18 in late trade, Sunrun Inc (NASDAQ:RUN) which lost 40.04% to settle at 5.78 and SolarEdge Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:SEDG) which was down 33.44% to 15.96 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1935 to 833 and 69 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2340 fell and 985 advanced, while 137 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 13.13% to 21.62.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.39% or 13.38 to $3,403.92 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 4.34% or 3.05 to hit $73.30 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 4.48% or 3.28 to trade at $76.51 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.67% to 1.15, while USD/JPY rose 0.36% to 145.25.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.86% at 98.39.
