Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Telecoms, Financials and Utilities sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.54%, while the S&P 500 index declined 0.61%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 0.60%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Unitedhealth Group (NYSE:UNH), which rose 2.58% or 14.12 points to trade at 561.64 at the close. Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) added 2.02% or 3.11 points to end at 157.04 and Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN) was up 1.86% or 5.08 points to 277.66 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Travelers Companies (NYSE:TRV), which lost 3.53% or 9.23 points to trade at 251.92 in late trade. International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM) declined 3.38% or 8.04 points to end at 230.00 and Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM) shed 2.88% or 10.42 points to 351.57.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Hershey Co (NYSE:HSY) which rose 10.85% to 193.65, Enphase Energy Inc (NASDAQ:ENPH) which was up 6.75% to settle at 76.39 and Charles River Laboratories (NYSE:CRL) which gained 5.18% to close at 201.75.
The worst performers were Omnicom Group Inc (NYSE:OMC) which was down 10.25% to 92.82 in late trade, Comcast Corp (NASDAQ:CMCSA) which lost 9.50% to settle at 39.05 and Charter Communications Inc (NASDAQ:CHTR) which was down 9.20% to 365.96 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were LeddarTech Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:LDTC) which rose 380.65% to 1.49, Metagenomi Inc (NASDAQ:MGX) which was up 125.95% to settle at 4.18 and Huize Holding Ltd (NASDAQ:HUIZ) which gained 123.45% to close at 6.06.
The worst performers were Bioage Labs Inc (NASDAQ:BIOA) which was down 76.85% to 4.65 in late trade, Universe Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:UPC) which lost 59.29% to settle at 1.38 and Radiopharm Theranostics Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:RADX) which was down 51.43% to 9.18 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1469 to 1339 and 74 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1675 rose and 1655 declined, while 101 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 11.12% to 14.19.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.88% or 23.41 to $2,683.01 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 1.53% or 1.03 to hit $68.23 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 1.22% or 0.87 to trade at $71.99 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.16% to 1.06, while USD/JPY rose 0.80% to 151.24.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.10% at 105.84.
