Goldman Sachs is out with its near-term forex outlook
Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Telecoms, Consumer Services and Basic Materials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.00%, while the S&P 500 index lost 0.27%, and the NASDAQ Composite index lost 0.50%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Unitedhealth Group (NYSE:UNH), which rose 2.25% or 6.84 points to trade at 310.63 at the close. International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM) added 1.91% or 5.28 points to end at 281.52 and Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) was up 1.55% or 9.56 points to 624.42 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN), which lost 2.04% or 4.44 points to trade at 213.17 in late trade. Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) declined 2.02% or 7.45 points to end at 360.46 and Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) shed 1.90% or 3.86 points to 198.81.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Warner Bros Discovery Inc (NASDAQ:WBD) which rose 5.19% to 10.53, Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ:SBUX) which was up 4.37% to settle at 95.43 and GE Vernova LLC (NYSE:GEV) which gained 3.90% to close at 483.47.
The worst performers were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) which was down 6.27% to 20.70 in late trade, Nucor Corp (NYSE:NUE) which lost 6.06% to settle at 117.13 and United Airlines Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:UAL) which was down 5.47% to 78.65 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Jupiter Neurosciences Inc (NASDAQ:JUNS) which rose 105.79% to 1.99, Kazia Therapeutics Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:KZIA) which was up 79.66% to settle at 9.54 and 707 Cayman Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:JEM) which gained 73.07% to close at 6.94.
The worst performers were XCF Global Inc (NASDAQ:SAFX) which was down 73.22% to 6.36 in late trade, Liminatus Pharma Inc (NASDAQ:LIMN) which lost 50.45% to settle at 11.11 and Carisma Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:CARM) which was down 45.66% to 0.60 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1447 to 1304 and 93 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2010 fell and 1309 advanced, while 116 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 1.83% to 17.26.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.98% or 32.77 to $3,376.17 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 4.63% or 3.01 to hit $67.99 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 4.11% or 2.75 to trade at $69.62 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.53% to 1.15, while USD/JPY fell 0.18% to 144.60.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.44% at 98.63.
