Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Utilities, Consumer Services and Telecoms sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1.05%, while the S&P 500 index added 1.06%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 0.90%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD), which rose 2.46% or 6.08 points to trade at 252.96 at the close. Coca-Cola Co (NYSE:KO) added 2.34% or 1.47 points to end at 64.38 and Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) was up 2.28% or 3.12 points to 139.84 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which lost 2.86% or 1.07 points to trade at 36.34 in late trade. Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) declined 1.00% or 1.02 points to end at 101.18 and 3M Company (NYSE:MMM) shed 0.71% or 0.92 points to 128.49.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Etsy Inc (NASDAQ:ETSY) which rose 9.02% to 79.81, PulteGroup Inc (NYSE:PHM) which was up 6.54% to settle at 42.22 and Warner Bros Discovery Inc (NASDAQ:WBD) which gained 6.18% to close at 14.25.
The worst performers were Lam Research Corp (NASDAQ:LRCX) which was down 7.35% to 394.83 in late trade, KLA-Tencor Corporation (NASDAQ:KLAC) which lost 7.15% to settle at 296.26 and Applied Materials Inc (NASDAQ:AMAT) which was down 5.18% to 86.27 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Omeros Corporation (NASDAQ:OMER) which rose 68.73% to 4.64, Clovis Oncology Inc (NASDAQ:CLVS) which was up 58.33% to settle at 2.85 and Fast Radius Inc (NASDAQ:FSRD) which gained 41.15% to close at 0.89.
The worst performers were Talaris Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:TALS) which was down 49.00% to 2.30 in late trade, Agile Thrpe (NASDAQ:AGRX) which lost 45.03% to settle at 0.64 and Ensysce Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:ENSC) which was down 34.48% to 0.57 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2347 to 788 and 123 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2268 rose and 1434 declined, while 232 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 7.00% to 26.70.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.05% or 0.85 to $1,808.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 2.48% or 2.62 to hit $108.38 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 2.19% or 2.39 to trade at $111.42 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.48% to 1.04, while USD/JPY fell 0.34% to 135.27.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.38% at 104.86.
