Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Consumer Services, Healthcare and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.99% to hit a new all time high, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.30%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 0.27%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Sherwin-Williams Co (NYSE:SHW), which rose 2.94% or 11.41 points to trade at 399.71 at the close. Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) added 2.54% or 3.79 points to end at 153.08 and Unitedhealth Group (NYSE:UNH) was up 2.53% or 14.96 points to 605.83 in late trade.
Biggest losers included NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA), which lost 4.18% or 5.93 points to trade at 136.02 in late trade. Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) declined 1.23% or 2.00 points to end at 160.36 and Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT) shed 1.04% or 0.94 points to 89.50.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Super Micro Computer Inc (NASDAQ:SMCI) which rose 15.87% to 38.41, Enphase Energy Inc (NASDAQ:ENPH) which was up 8.48% to settle at 71.91 and Ulta Beauty Inc (NASDAQ:ULTA) which gained 7.17% to close at 362.65.
The worst performers were GE Vernova LLC (NYSE:GEV) which was down 5.78% to 328.98 in late trade, ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP) which lost 5.06% to settle at 106.10 and Vistra Energy Corp (NYSE:VST) which was down 4.80% to 154.14 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were ZenaTech Inc (NASDAQ:ZENA) which rose 258.66% to 6.42, Quantum Corporation (NASDAQ:QMCO) which was up 137.35% to settle at 21.67 and SmartKem Inc (NASDAQ:SMTK) which gained 69.69% to close at 5.43.
The worst performers were Cassava Sciences Inc (NASDAQ:SAVA) which was down 83.78% to 4.30 in late trade, Oncternal Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:ONCT) which lost 37.72% to settle at 0.71 and Crown Electrokinetics Corp. (NASDAQ:CRKN) which was down 35.68% to 0.42 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2017 to 815 and 67 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2192 rose and 1116 declined, while 120 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 4.20% to 14.60.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 3.12% or 85.40 to $2,651.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 3.02% or 2.15 to hit $69.09 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 2.71% or 2.02 to trade at $72.61 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.73% to 1.05, while USD/JPY fell 0.33% to 154.23.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.59% at 106.87.
