Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Telecoms, Consumer Goods and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.75%, while the S&P 500 index added 0.58%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 0.55%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Honeywell International Inc (NASDAQ:HON), which rose 5.44% or 10.91 points to trade at 211.57 at the close. Sherwin-Williams Co (NYSE:SHW) added 4.80% or 15.93 points to end at 348.13 and Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN) was up 1.93% or 5.47 points to 288.56 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Unitedhealth Group (NYSE:UNH), which lost 2.56% or 10.77 points to trade at 409.23 in late trade. McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) declined 0.73% or 2.31 points to end at 314.50 and Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) shed 0.61% or 0.86 points to 139.25.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were SBA Communications Corp (NASDAQ:SBAC) which rose 6.79% to 238.43, Cadence Design Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CDNS) which was up 5.72% to settle at 302.09 and Honeywell International Inc (NASDAQ:HON) which gained 5.44% to close at 211.57.
The worst performers were NXP Semiconductors NV (NASDAQ:NXPI) which was down 6.94% to 182.62 in late trade, Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:REGN) which lost 6.87% to settle at 568.91 and Brown & Brown Inc (NYSE:BRO) which was down 6.00% to 107.99 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Damon Inc (NASDAQ:DMN) which unchanged 97.37% to 0.01, WW International Inc (NASDAQ:WW) which was up 76.54% to settle at 0.73 and Urgent.ly Inc (NASDAQ:ULY) which gained 52.13% to close at 11.41.
The worst performers were Petros Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:PTPI) which was down 77.55% to 0.01 in late trade, Incannex Healthcare Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:IXHL) which lost 75.10% to settle at 0.15 and iOThree Ltd (NASDAQ:IOTR) which was down 58.24% to 0.38 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1785 to 976 and 89 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1870 rose and 1402 declined, while 160 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 3.86% to 24.18.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.52% or 17.48 to $3,330.22 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 3.01% or 1.87 to hit $60.18 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 2.65% or 1.72 to trade at $63.07 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.28% to 1.14, while USD/JPY rose 0.22% to 142.33.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.19% at 98.98.
