Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Telecoms, Utilities and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.52%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.55%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 0.70%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM), which rose 5.17% or 12.85 points to trade at 261.54 at the close. Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) added 4.14% or 1.83 points to end at 46.06 and McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) was up 3.52% or 10.92 points to 321.29 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT), which lost 3.09% or 2.92 points to trade at 91.72 in late trade. Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) declined 2.68% or 4.25 points to end at 154.18 and JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:JPM) shed 1.73% or 4.26 points to 242.28.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Amentum Holdings LLC (NYSE:AMTM) which rose 9.03% to 19.99, Broadcom Inc (NASDAQ:AVGO) which was up 8.64% to settle at 194.96 and Skyworks Solutions Inc (NASDAQ:SWKS) which gained 8.49% to close at 72.61.
The worst performers were Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co (NYSE:HPE) which was down 11.97% to 15.81 in late trade, Cooper Companies Inc (NASDAQ:COO) which lost 6.57% to settle at 85.00 and Costco Wholesale Corp (NASDAQ:COST) which was down 6.07% to 964.31 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Able View Global Inc (NASDAQ:ABLV) which rose 128.95% to 1.74, Sunation Energy Inc (NASDAQ:SUNE) which was up 125.01% to settle at 0.40 and Bit Origin Ltd (NASDAQ:BTOG) which gained 121.43% to close at 0.62.
The worst performers were Scienture Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:SCNX) which was down 34.44% to 1.58 in late trade, Avalon Globocare Corp (NASDAQ:ALBT) which lost 33.67% to settle at 7.23 and Acurx Pharmaceuticals LLC (NASDAQ:ACXP) which was down 29.86% to 0.46 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1584 to 1168 and 91 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1794 rose and 1493 declined, while 140 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 6.03% to 23.37.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.26% or 7.60 to $2,919.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 1.05% or 0.70 to hit $67.06 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 1.30% or 0.90 to trade at $70.36 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.51% to 1.08, while USD/JPY fell 0.04% to 147.98.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.21% at 103.81.
