FTSE 100 today: Index rises, GBP higher, Burberry recovers, GSK falls
Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Oil & Gas and Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.08%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.41%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 0.67%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which rose 2.00% or 4.15 points to trade at 211.47 at the close. International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM) added 1.87% or 4.84 points to end at 263.90 and NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) was up 1.69% or 2.29 points to 137.42 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM), which lost 1.49% or 3.96 points to trade at 261.41 in late trade. 3M Company (NYSE:MMM) declined 1.31% or 1.95 points to end at 146.40 and Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG) shed 1.23% or 2.09 points to 167.80.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Steel Dynamics Inc (NASDAQ:STLD) which rose 10.27% to 135.71, Nucor Corp (NYSE:NUE) which was up 10.10% to settle at 120.40 and Newmont Goldcorp Corp (NYSE:NEM) which gained 5.42% to close at 55.58.
The worst performers were Amentum Holdings LLC (NYSE:AMTM) which was down 6.49% to 19.32 in late trade, First Solar Inc (NASDAQ:FSLR) which lost 5.36% to settle at 149.60 and Leidos Holdings Inc (NYSE:LDOS) which was down 4.63% to 141.65 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Lyra Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:LYRA) which rose 310.75% to 20.25, ModivCare Inc (NASDAQ:MODV) which was up 95.47% to settle at 2.19 and Brand Engagement Network Inc (NASDAQ:BNAI) which gained 77.42% to close at 0.50.
The worst performers were LogicMark Inc (OTC:LGMK) which was down 53.04% to 0.01 in late trade, IM Cannabis Corp (NASDAQ:IMCC) which lost 43.62% to settle at 3.50 and Huachen AI Parking Management Technology Holding Co Ltd (NASDAQ:HCAI) which was down 36.58% to 4.04 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1487 to 1267 and 86 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1706 rose and 1609 declined, while 123 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 1.08% to 18.37.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 2.70% or 89.37 to $3,404.77 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 3.85% or 2.34 to hit $63.13 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 3.84% or 2.41 to trade at $65.19 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.84% to 1.14, while USD/JPY fell 0.92% to 142.74.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.65% at 98.61.
