Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Technology, Consumer Goods and Telecoms sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.08%, while the S&P 500 index added 0.08%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 0.52%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which rose 3.06% or 5.28 points to trade at 178.11 at the close. Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) added 1.95% or 4.17 points to end at 218.27 and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) was up 1.10% or 4.25 points to 391.09 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE), which lost 5.46% or 3.92 points to trade at 67.94 in late trade. Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) declined 1.71% or 1.62 points to end at 93.11 and Coca-Cola Co (NYSE:KO) shed 1.52% or 1.06 points to 68.65.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Super Micro Computer Inc (NASDAQ:SMCI) which rose 7.75% to 42.13, Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) which was up 5.27% to settle at 248.71 and Palantir Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:PLTR) which gained 4.09% to close at 90.96.
The worst performers were Micron Technology Inc (NASDAQ:MU) which was down 8.04% to 94.72 in late trade, FedEx Corporation (NYSE:FDX) which lost 6.45% to settle at 230.33 and Lockheed Martin Corporation (NYSE:LMT) which was down 5.79% to 439.70 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Singularity Future Technology Ltd (NASDAQ:SGLY) which rose 143.44% to 1.68, VivoPower International PLC (NASDAQ:VVPR) which was up 52.14% to settle at 1.29 and Galecto Inc (NASDAQ:GLTO) which gained 45.58% to close at 6.10.
The worst performers were LQR House Inc (NASDAQ:YHC) which was down 82.38% to 0.40 in late trade, Damon Inc (NASDAQ:DMN) which lost 70.28% to settle at 0.04 and TC BioPharm Holdings PLC (NASDAQ:TCBP) which was down 67.53% to 0.50 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1774 to 967 and 100 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1857 fell and 1416 advanced, while 131 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 2.63% to 19.28.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.49% or 15.01 to $3,028.79 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.29% or 0.20 to hit $68.27 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.19% or 0.14 to trade at $72.14 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.29% to 1.08, while USD/JPY rose 0.37% to 149.35.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.30% at 103.81.
