Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Automobiles & Parts, Real Estate Investment Trusts REITs and General Retailers sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.47%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Shell PLC (LON:SHEL), which rose 1.73% or 40.50 points to trade at 2,378.50 at the close. Auto Trader Group Plc (LON:AUTOA) added 1.61% or 8.60 points to end at 544.40 and BP PLC (LON:BP) was up 1.25% or 5.70 points to 460.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO), which lost 10.04% or 50.90 points to trade at 456.10 in late trade. Next PLC (LON:NXT) declined 5.33% or 268.00 points to end at 4,762.00 and ITV PLC (LON:ITV) shed 4.96% or 3.06 points to 58.60.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1279 to 535 and 461 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.66% or 11.35 to $1,719.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 1.61% or 1.39 to hit $87.91 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 1.81% or 1.66 to trade at $93.46 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 1.38% to 1.13, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.29% to 0.87.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 1.13% at 111.23.
