FTSE 100 today: Index opens flat amid latest trade developments; pound above $1.36
Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Industrial Engineering, Mining and Tobacco sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.23%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Entain PLC (LON:ENT), which rose 3.51% or 26.80 points to trade at 790.80 at the close. Airtel Africa Plc (LON:AAF) added 3.25% or 5.50 points to end at 174.60 and Mondi PLC (LON:MNDI) was up 3.20% or 38.00 points to 1,226.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Imperial Brands PLC (LON:IMB), which lost 7.27% or 210.00 points to trade at 2,680.00 in late trade. Spirax-Sarco Engineering PLC (LON:SPX) declined 6.00% or 395.00 points to end at 6,190.00 and Vistry Group PLC (LON:VTYV) shed 3.13% or 19.80 points to 613.40.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 905 to 854 and 598 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 1.91% or 62.00 to $3,185.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.60% or 0.38 to hit $63.29 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.66% or 0.44 to trade at $66.19 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.01% to 1.33, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.24% to 0.84.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.20% at 100.63.
