Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Financial Services, Support Services and Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 3.30%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were 3I Group PLC (LON:III), which rose 7.75% or 279.00 points to trade at 3,879.00 at the close. Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) added 7.70% or 18.60 points to end at 260.25 and Intermediate Capital Group PLC (LON:ICGIN) was up 7.27% or 114.00 points to 1,683.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO), which lost 6.15% or 20.60 points to trade at 314.60 in late trade. J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY) declined 2.97% or 7.00 points to end at 228.80 and Aviva PLC (LON:AV) shed 0.78% or 3.90 points to 496.30.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1646 to 298 and 427 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 3.15% or 97.01 to $3,176.41 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 4.57% or 2.85 to hit $59.50 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 4.06% or 2.66 to trade at $62.82 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.87% to 1.29, while EUR/GBP rose 1.29% to 0.87.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 1.80% at 100.78.
