Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Banking and Oil & Gas Producers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.42%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN), which rose 3.18% or 18.20 points to trade at 591.00 at the close. ITV PLC (LON:ITV) added 2.74% or 1.92 points to end at 72.12 and Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) was up 2.51% or 10.60 points to 432.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which lost 4.74% or 32.80 points to trade at 659.20 in late trade. Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) declined 4.04% or 32.00 points to end at 759.60 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) shed 3.19% or 21.40 points to 648.60.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 924 to 887 and 468 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.59% or 10.15 to $1,717.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.96% or 1.86 to hit $96.56 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 1.69% or 1.66 to trade at $100.04 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.46% to 1.21, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.26% to 0.85.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.30% at 106.30.
