Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Electrical, Forestry & Paper and Gas, Water & Multiutilities sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.32%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON), which rose 4.07% or 4.70 points to trade at 120.20 at the close. SSE PLC (LON:SSE) added 3.81% or 46.00 points to end at 1254.00 and DS Smith PLC (LON:SMDS) was up 3.50% or 10.30 points to 305.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR), which lost 10.15% or 13.20 points to trade at 116.80 in late trade. DCC plc (LON:DCC) declined 6.62% or 398.0 points to end at 5610.0 and Royal Dutch Shell PLC Class A (LON:RDSa) shed 3.72% or 35.9 points to 928.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1144 to 1010 and 184 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.12% or 21.25 to $1916.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 4.18% or 1.68 to hit $38.54 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 3.52% or 1.49 to trade at $40.81 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.16% to 1.2895, while EUR/GBP rose 0.41% to 0.9105.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.15% at 93.787.
