Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Construction & Materials, Food & Drug Retailers and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.64%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Relx PLC (LON:REL), which rose 2.94% or 38.00 points to trade at 1332.00 at the close. Severn Trent PLC (LON:SVT) added 2.20% or 47.00 points to end at 2186.00 and WPP PLC (LON:WPP) was up 1.83% or 30.00 points to 1673.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included CRH PLC (LON:CRH), which lost 2.88% or 80.00 points to trade at 2701.00 in late trade. Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV) declined 2.77% or 13.400 points to end at 469.500 and Berkeley Group Hldgs (LON:BKGH) shed 2.54% or 63.00 points to 2419.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1362 to 941 and 462 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.31% or 3.75 to $1228.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.57% or 0.26 to hit $45.55 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.68% or 0.32 to trade at $46.63 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.01% to 1.2457, while EUR/GBP fell 0.15% to 0.8597.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.04% at 100.24.
