Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Pharmaceuticals & Biotech, Banking and Software & Computer Services sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.54%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 4.76% or 78.00 points to trade at 1718.00 at the close. Royal Dutch Shell PLC B (LON:RDSb) added 3.97% or 84.00 points to end at 2199.00 and Royal Dutch Shell PLC (LON:RDSa) was up 3.75% or 76.50 points to 2115.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN), which lost 5.42% or 38.600 points to trade at 673.300 in late trade. BP PLC (LON:BP) declined 4.48% or 21.65 points to end at 462.05 and Shire PLC (LON:SHP) shed 2.63% or 122.50 points to 4527.50.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1395 to 844 and 427 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 1.35% or 17.15 to $1290.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.75% or 0.35 to hit $46.51 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.91% or 0.44 to trade at $48.17 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.09% to 1.2250, while EUR/GBP rose 0.76% to 0.9032.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.61% at 97.72.
