Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Tobacco, Fixed Line Telecommunications and Industrial Engineering sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.31%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were 3I Group PLC (LON:III), which rose 2.30% or 20.00 points to trade at 888.50 at the close. Tui AG (LON:TUIT) added 1.97% or 23.00 points to end at 1192.00 and GlaxoSmithKline PLC (LON:GSK) was up 1.79% or 29.5 points to 1673.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM), which lost 3.25% or 26.50 points to trade at 789.50 in late trade. Shire PLC (LON:SHP) declined 3.19% or 148.50 points to end at 4503.00 and Informa Plc (LON:INF) shed 2.76% or 19.00 points to 669.50.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1085 to 930 and 413 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.46% or 5.78 to $1262.32 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 1.14% or 0.57 to hit $49.23 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 1.52% or 0.80 to trade at $51.84 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.05% to 1.2847, while EUR/GBP rose 0.06% to 0.8702.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.07% at 97.26.
