Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Household Goods & Home Construction, Software & Computer Services and Automobiles & Parts sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.56%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Sage Group PLC (LON:SGE), which rose 2.68% or 18.00 points to trade at 690.00 at the close. Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV) added 2.44% or 14.50 points to end at 609.50 and Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) was up 2.35% or 56.00 points to 2442.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Royal Mail PLC (LON:RMG), which lost 2.75% or 11.30 points to trade at 399.80 in late trade. Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) declined 2.24% or 31.00 points to end at 1353.00 and Paddy Power Betfair PLC (LON:PPB) shed 2.06% or 160.00 points to 7610.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1156 to 717 and 481 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.13% or 1.63 to $1240.27 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.36% or 0.63 to hit $47.03 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.41% or 0.69 to trade at $49.53 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.08% to 1.3032, while EUR/GBP fell 0.24% to 0.8838.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.14% at 94.58.
