Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Mobile Telecommunications, Industrial Metals & Mining and Electrical sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.38%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS), which rose 2.75% or 10.60 points to trade at 395.50 at the close. Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY) added 2.45% or 42.00 points to end at 1756.00 and Merlin Entertainments PLC (LON:MERL) was up 2.24% or 11.50 points to 525.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which lost 4.61% or 80.00 points to trade at 1656.00 in late trade. Micro Focus International (LON:MCRO) declined 3.76% or 93.00 points to end at 2379.00 and Worldpay Group PLC (LON:WPG) shed 2.42% or 7.80 points to 314.10.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1128 to 788 and 497 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.49% or 6.11 to $1259.71 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.63% or 0.32 to hit $50.99 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.37% or 0.20 to trade at $53.81 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.23% to 1.3005, while EUR/GBP rose 0.50% to 0.8639.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 96.88.
