Certain Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) employees from China have reportedly been registered for the employee FSD program, hinting at yet another step towards the deployment of the EV maker’s advanced driver assistance system in the Asian country.

What Happened: Despite the appearance of the new wording on certain employee vehicles, no FSD (Supervised) features have been activated yet, Teslarati reported, citing an “employee source” who shared a screenshot to a Tesla tracker on Twitter. Benzinga could not independently verify the report.

It is still uncertain when Tesla plans to launch FSD in China. Tesla's FSD is a driver assistance software that it believes will enable vehicle autonomy in due time. Currently, however, it requires active driver supervision.

Why It Matters: CEO Elon Musk said during the company's first-quarter earnings call last month that Tesla intends to deploy its FSD in all markets where it can get regulatory approval, including China.

"We’ll make the car drive better in these other countries with country-specific training. But it can drive quite well almost everywhere," Musk said about the software.

Musk visited China last month and met with officials, including Premier Li Qiang. The CEO also reportedly received tentative approval to test its software in the country. Musk is currently relying on vehicle autonomy to boost Tesla’s falling value.

Price Action: Tesla shares closed up 3.2%at $179.24 on Monday. The stock is down nearly 28% year to date, according to data from Benzinga Pro.
