Proactive Investors - J Sainsbury PLC (LSE:SBRY) has announced a promotion in its smaller convenience stores that will see it match the prices of 200 of budget-rival Aldi's products.
The FTSE100 group has run Aldi price match campaigns in its mainstream supermarket but this is the first time it, or any other major supermarket, has extended it to convenience stores.
No details were given on the cost of the promotion which does not extend to Sainsbury’s nectar card and that still can only be used in supermarkets.
Consumer groups such as Which? have regularly complained that convenience stores are unnecessarily expensive compared to larger outlets with few cheaper own-label products available.
Sainsbury's (LON:SBRY) announces its half-year results later this week, which the City expects to reflect a growing share of the market but pressure from higher costs and lower shop inflation.
Shares rose 0.5% to 266.2p.
