Investing.com – Russia equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Telecoms, Power and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Moscow, the MICEX lost 0.44%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the MICEX were MMC Norilsk Nickel (MCX:GMKN), which rose 3.24% or 330.0 points to trade at 10500.0 at the close. Mos obl sb (MCX:MSRS) added 2.70% or 0.0250 points to end at 0.9500 and Tatneft-3 (MCX:TATN) was up 2.02% or 6.15 points to 309.90 in late trade.
Biggest losers included ALROSA ao (MCX:ALRS), which lost 3.14% or 2.250 points to trade at 69.500 in late trade. FSK EES (MCX:FEES) declined 3.00% or 0.0021 points to end at 0.0678 and MMK (MCX:MAGN) shed 2.81% or 0.425 points to 14.678.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 130 to 73 and 4 ended unchanged on the Moscow Stock Exchange.
The Russian VIX, which measures the implied volatility of MICEX options, was up 1.37% to 36.180.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 0.33% or 3.90 to $1189.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.41% or 0.85 to hit $61.25 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.90% or 0.60 to trade at $68.12 a barrel.
USD/RUB was up 0.37% to 50.786, while EUR/RUB rose 1.81% to 57.546.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.96% at 94.36.
