Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Industrials and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 0.40%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Estacio Participacoes SA (SA:ESTC3), which rose 2.23% or 0.34 points to trade at 15.57 at the close. EDP - Energias do Brasil SA (SA:ENBR3) added 2.12% or 0.29 points to end at 13.99 and Banco Santander Brasil SA Unit (SA:SANB11) was up 1.84% or 0.51 points to 28.19 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3), which lost 5.15% or 0.50 points to trade at 9.20 in late trade. Gerdau SA Pref (SA:GGBR4) declined 3.25% or 0.36 points to end at 10.70 and Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) shed 2.73% or 0.14 points to 4.98.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 167 to 167 and 40 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 1.53% to 31.53.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.92% or 11.50 to $1242.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 1.80% or 0.89 to hit $50.40 a barrel, while the May US coffee C contract rose 0.12% or 0.16 to trade at $139.23 .
USD/BRL was up 0.88% to 3.1473, while EUR/BRL rose 0.08% to 3.3615.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.63% at 100.41.
