Investing.com – France equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Utilities and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 declined 1.19% to hit a new 1-month low, while the SBF 120 index lost 1.04%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the CAC 40 were Air Liquide SA (PA:AIRP), which rose 4.81% or 4.55 points to trade at 99.20 at the close. Safran SA (PA:SAF) added 0.13% or 0.08 points to end at 63.87 and Schneider Electric SE (PA:SCHN) was down 0.20% or 0.12 points to 59.38 in late trade.
Biggest losers included ArcelorMittal SA (AS:ISPA), which lost 3.76% or 0.197 points to trade at 5.048 in late trade. Total SA (PA:TOTF) declined 3.30% or 1.44 points to end at 42.00 and AXA SA (PA:AXAF) shed 3.14% or 0.60 points to 18.66.
The top performers on the SBF 120 were Air Liquide SA (PA:AIRP) which rose 4.81% to 99.20, Ingenico Group (PA:INGC) which was up 2.07% to settle at 79.78 and STMicroelectronics (PA:STM) which gained 1.41% to close at 6.778.
The worst performers were Vallourec (PA:VLLP) which was down 5.02% to 3.971 in late trade, CGG SA (PA:GEPH) which lost 3.88% to settle at 22.0600 and ArcelorMittal SA (AS:ISPA) which was down 3.76% to 5.048 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 413 to 237 and 115 ended unchanged on the Paris Stock Exchange.
The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was up 4.72% to 21.20 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.10% or 1.35 to $1326.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 2.59% or 1.20 to hit $45.09 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 2.15% or 1.04 to trade at $47.28 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.01% to 1.1234, while EUR/GBP rose 1.13% to 0.8519.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.33% at 95.43.
